Green Screen Workshop

A green screen works by allowing you be in places you are not. Something to keep into consideration would be to make sure the screen is perfectly flat and free of wrinkles. This creats problems when in the editing process. Also dont wear green. The techniques offered in After Effects made the editing so much more easy than the editing offered in Premiere Pro. This workshop was pretty easy to finish because of the power point provided.

Celebrating Yalda & Night Chant

I felt that mer and my partener did a very good job using our time well and working together to complete this video. We spent a lot of time working on the editing and making sure that what we were saying wasn't cut offf or it wasn't dragging on too long. I liked how Laura's group added in pictures into their video and i think that if we do another project like this I might take that into consideration. Also I liked how Luis's group made their scenes transition very well. In creating this video a worked on editing my film while Jorge worked on editing his film. We both decided where we would set the in and out points and where/how to place our backgrounds. We both seemed to work off of each other and help each other by commenting on what and how we were doing. I helped Jorge with the editing of the scene and Jorge helped me with the music and titles. Next time Iwould spend more time thinking about camera angles and rehersing my script...and maybe bring in some props.

All of the suggestions that people had were really helpful. One suggestion that I found to be one of the ones that kept opping up was the volume. I do believe that the volume should be higher that way you can actually understand what we are saying. I feel like we should adjust the volumes so that they can beat the same volume. I also thought we should also end the concluding scene with more of a pull and end it smoothly instead of having a random picture. The last suggestion I thought was very important was maybe having some picture being shown with the interviews so everyone can see more of a variety of things instead of just seeing the person speaking.

Lifting and Extracting

A simple cut in the timeline means you cut out a clip from the video. When you cut, the other clips in the timeline leave a gap where the clip once was. A ripple edit is when you cut a clip out of the video, but don't want a gap between the other clips. You do this by right clicking on the clip and selecting "ripple delete". When you ripple delete, the other clips to the right of the deleted clip move in to get rid of the gap the clip left behind. Lifting and extracting are two ways to cut clips out of your video at one time. To do this, you create in and out points on the clip you want to lift or extract and then push which key you want to do the desired comand on the program panel.Lifting is like cutting or deleting a clip only, while extracting is like the ripple edit option, in terms of what happens to the other clips in the timeline.This is an example of an extract edit. I decided to extract the two clips where Idid because it made the most sense.

Inserts

This is an example of an insert edit. An insert edit places a clip in between another one while keeping the other clip the same length and in this edit, you do not cut off any part of the original clip, you simply place the new one in between the original one. To do this you simply click and drag the clip from the source panel into your timeline all while holding down the Ctrl key. I decided to place the 2nd clip where I did because it made you see the big jump and see her expression after it.

The difference between an overlay and an insert is that when you use an overlay when you want to replace a certain part of the video and you use insert you use it when you just want to add a clip in without replacing any of the main video. You would use an overlay when you want to cut something out of the main video, while you'd use an insert edit when you just want to add something without replacing anything. In this case the overlay edit works better because there is alot of dead time in the video and you can use the overlay to shorten it and give it a better feel to the audience.

Overlays

 This is an example of an overlay edit.  An overlay places a clip over another clip and replaces the one you have laid it over.   To do this, you click and drag your edited clip from the source panel onto the desired place in your timeline.  I decided to overlay the 2nd clip where i did because it seemed, to me, to be the best possible place for that edited clip.
